The earthquakes of the year 2001, the drought and economic crisis suffered by El Salvador during the last years have caused an increase in the unemployment indexes and the poverty levels of the coffee growing sector. As a consequence there are high levels of malnutrition in the families of the workers.
The lack of proteins and micro nutrients, small coverage of the country health program, shortage of potable water and high environmental contamination have created a health problem in our country. 90% of the infant-adolescent group present cases of anemia and approximately 100,000 people have vitamin A deficiencies.
